Dear Fairfax City Students and Residents,
Last evening was the last in a series of community outreach meetings intended to gather feedback about the 3 options for the upcoming boundary adjustment. I am hopeful that if you are interested in participating in the process you were able to make attend. However, if you were not able to attend one of the 3 meetings there is still an opportunity to “weigh in” with your thoughts about the changes. The following represent the final phase of the study and timeline:
April 4, 2013 – options presented to the FCPS School Board as New Business with a staff recommendation (Luther Jackson Middle School)
April 17, 2013 – a public hearing will be held to listen to feedback from the community (Luther Jackson Middle School)
Date to be determined – An FCPS work session will be held to discuss the options
May 9, 2013 – Action by the FCPS School Board with implementation to begin fall 2014 (if approved)
I know that these can be trying times with the uncertainty of where our students will attend school over the next several years. The good news in all of this is that we have great schools in the City of Fairfax and the options in FCPS are also excellent. It is a matter of change and change can be difficult.
At the beginning of the process I was hopeful that we would achieve the results of the scope and study (relief to our overcrowded schools) and that the process would be civil. It is apparent that both objectives are being achieved. I am proud to be part of the City of Fairfax community and will continue to work hard ensuring that our students get the very best services in world class facilities every day.
