Mayor, School Board Member Toby Sorensen join FCCLA for dinner
On February 12th, the City of Fairfax FCCLA sponsored their annual Families First Dinner at Lanier cafeteria. This year the guests were treated to a special meal donated by CHOOLAAH Indian BBQ in Fairfax. The purpose of the dinner is to bring FCCLA
members, their families, teaching staff and city official and teach all about the importance of family meal time. Studies have shown that when families eat together that students are emotionally balanced, do better in school and have more self-confidence. As part of the dinner, every guest attending were given a brown lunch bag to write their name and place their electronic devise. These were placed in a laundry basket and used to draw out winners for a variety of gift cards provided by local merchants. Adults and children were given the opportunity to win cards from Jermantown Shell, Fairfax Giant, Walmart, Embassy AutoWash, SkateQuest, Massage Envy Burke, and BJS. CHOOLAHS Indian BBQ menu consisted on tandoor-spiced chicken with basmati rice, vegetable croquettes, samosa, tikki masala, chicken pea masala, naan bread and a variety of sauces. Guest were encouraged to use conversation starter strips to engage in interesting conversations which may be challenging for some families. The FCCLA members and adviser were complimented by the attendance of the Fairfax City Mayor, David Meyer, and City School Board member Toby Sorenson.
