City of Fairfax School Board Attends Virginia School Board Association’s 28th Annual Conference on Education in Richmond

City of Fairfax School Board members joined nearly 1,000 Virginia educators, governing officials, attorneys, legislators and other school board members from across the state at the Virginia School Board Association (VSBA) 28th annual Conference on Education in Richmond on July 23rd. The purpose of the conference was to offer participants the opportunity to learn about successful educational practices occurring throughout the state.

“The VSBA Conference on Education is an opportunity to learn from school systems around the state,” said Janice Miller, Chairman of the City of Fairfax School Board. “This conference also provides us to meet and collaborate with other school board members from different region to discuss best practices and see what works.”

Participants attended their choice of more than 60 mini-workshops on topics such as school law, curriculum and instruction, technology integration, community relations, school safety, testing, finance, special education, and community partnerships. The presenters included educators from state and local levels, university and college professors, business representatives, and attorneys.

Attendees also heard remarks from Randi Richards-Lutz, National School Administrator of the Year for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Richards-Lutz is the career and technical administrator for Culpeper County Public Schools (Virginia).
