City of Fairfax School Board held its annual student panel last night at their regular work session. The panel included over 20 students from grades 7-12 attending Lanier Middle School and Fairfax High School. Students were broken into small groups before gathering all together in one large group. The theme this year was “Transitions”, with questions focusing on transitioning from one grade or school to the next and if the students felt prepared for their next level. Older students eased younger students’ fears of excessive homework and finding friends. Students discussed the importance of seeking help from trusted counselors and friends. City of Fairfax Schools Superintendent Peter Noonan asked students to take their leadership skills and “pay it forward”, looking for friends who need a little help getting involved. In the audience were parents, FHS teachers, counselors, City of Fairfax Chief of Police Pardiny, City Council Member Janice Miller and FHS principal Dave Goldfarb.
