The City of Fairfax Schools earned full accreditation from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) for 2017-2018. The accreditation is based on the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) from the 2016-2017 school year. All four schools in the City of Fairfax earned accreditation. For a school to earn full accreditation, students must achieve adjusted pass rates of at least 75 percent in English and at least 70 percent on assessments in mathematics, science and history. High schools must also meet a benchmark for graduation and completion. Accreditation ratings may also reflect an average of achievement over several years. The VDOE noted that 86 percent, or 1,573, of the commonwealth’s 1,823 public schools are rated as Fully Accredited for this school year

“The SOLs are one of many ways that we measure student success in our schools and we are proud that our four schools are fully accredited. Our schools continually strive to provide students with innovative ways to have the best educational learning experience,” said Dr. Phyllis Pajardo, Superintendent of the City of Fairfax Schools. “Our school leaders and staff are deeply committed to educating each and every child in their building and the City of Fairfax as a community supports all of our students. This is a reminder of the hard work and dedication of our administrators, staff and students and we offer our full congratulations.”
