Dr. Phyllis Pajardo, Superintendent of the City of Fairfax Schools was honored as the 2017 Education Leader of the Year by Leadership Fairfax. Dr. Pajardo was presented with the award on Thursday, November 9 at a luncheon celebrating all the award winners.
“Dr. Pajardo has mentored many leaders in field of education. I am sure I can speak for others in saying that Dr. Pajardo has inspired, encouraged and supported many of us to get where we are as leaders,” said Dr. Nardos King, a friend and colleague of Dr. Pajardo. “Dr. Pajardo is the epitome of what is means to be dynamic, forward thinking and innovative in our field. I am so proud and honored to be associated with her and she is most deserving of this award.”
Dr. Pajardo joined the City of Fairfax Schools in 2015 after working for almost 35 years at Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). Dr. Pajardo served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, cluster (region) director and cluster assistant superintendent. From 2011-2015, Dr. Pajardo was the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources for FCPS where she was responsible for recruiting, hiring and developing a diverse workforce for the school district.
Dr. Pajardo earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Virginia (U.Va.) and her master’s in education from George Mason University (GMU). She completed her doctorate in education from U.Va. in 2009. She completed the executive leadership program for educators through the Curry School of Education and the Darden School of Business at U.Va. She serves as an adjunct faculty member in leadership preparation/development for GMU, UVA, and Virginia Tech as well as ASCD and has given presentations at national, state, and local conferences.
Leadership Fairfax is a nonprofit organization that inspires, develops, engages and connects leaders across sectors and experience to impact issues facing Fairfax County and the region. Leadership Fairfax offers three community leadership programs- Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI), Leadership Fairfax Institute (LFI), and Lifetime Leaders Program (LLP). Graduates of the programs are proven leaders in business, government, and nonprofit sectors of Northern Virginia.
