The City of Fairfax School Board closed their 2017-2018 school year by recognizing over 100 elementary and middle school students at their regular school board meeting on Monday, June 4th.
Students from Lanier Middle School were honored for District and All Virginia Chorus, All District Band and Orchestra, Scholastic Art and Writing, eCybermission STEM competition, Kidwind Turbine National Placement, FCCLA National Competition and Caring for Our Watershed Winners. In addtion, retiring staff and Teacher of the Year award winners were recognized.
Elementary students from Daniels Run ES and Providence ES were recognized for Honors Band and Chorus, Student Government, Patrol, and special awards created by each school including the Kindness Award, Innovation, Bravery and Perserverance.
The School Board also recognized Fairfax High School Alumni Second Lt. Simone Askew who was the first African American female to be named First Cadet at West Point. Askew will attend Oxford next year as a Rhodes Scholar.
Students from Fairfax High School were recognized in May.
