Fairfax Academy for Communications and the Arts new administrator Andrea Cook presented to the City school board on Monday, November 6th. As the “Spotlight on Learning” presentation, Ms. Cook discussed her background and looked ahead for her future plans for the Academy.
The Fairfax Academy is a “school within a school” at Fairfax High School. The Academy offers 10 programs including foreign languages, TV production, music composition, social media marketing, photography, musical theater, dance and fashion design. The Academy welcomes over 800 students from schools all throughout Fairfax County Public Schools. Forty percent of the Academy students consider Fairfax High School as their base school.
Ms. Cook, the former dance instructor at the Academy became the administrator this summer. She highlighted the experience and passion of the staff, most of whom are former industry professionals. For the future of the Academy, Ms. Cook is looking into expanding the course offerings and increasing the Academy’s profile within the Fairfax community.
