Fairfax High School DECA students have created the Crush Cancer Club. Crush Cancer’s main goal is to bring awareness to pediatric cancer. Students in the club unite to volunteer at events such as CureFest DC and work to give pediatric cancer patients a voice. CureFest DC is an annual event held in Washington DC during September, whose mission is to make childhood cancer research a national priority. Members of the childhood cancer community, the general public, and the medical community are drawn together to create mass media attention towards pediatric cancer. Fairfax High School DECA has been volunteering at CureFest DC since it’s initiation over four years ago, and with the creation of Crush Cancer, FHS DECA hopes to have an even larger impact on pediatric cancer awareness. For the remainder of the school year Crush Cancer has many more events planned, such as gold out events at FHS sporting events and toy drives during the holiday season.
