Fairfax High School Students Win Male and Female 6A VHSL Athletes of the Year

Congratulations to Fairfax High School students Tessa Bechert and Mike Breslin for being honored as the Virginia High School League and the AllState Foundation Virginia 6A female and male athletes of the year.

From Principal Dave Goldfarb:

“Mike Breslin is the ideal teammate. He leads by example, and his example is inspiring to his teammates. He is the first to be there, the last to leave, he does what is right, and he never takes a play off. Case in point…Mike’s sophomore year, he was out injured for the entire football season, yet he still never missed a practice or a game. His senior year, Mike played on the varsity football, swim and lacrosse teams, and he was one of the captains on each team.”

“During her time at Fairfax HS, Tessa was a member of the varsity field hockey, indoor track and girls lacrosse teams. Unfortunately, she suffered a long-lasting concussion, to the point she could no longer participate on the team. She faced this adversity by being the team manager. Tessa fully understands the importance of participating in extracurriculars; she gets that it is the other side of academics. She loves being around people, and she puts fun into everything she does.”
