Over 75 Students Attended Leadership Conference in Virginia Beach
Fairfax High School DECA students attended the State Leadership Conference in Virginia Beach earlier this month. Seventy seven DECA members exhibited their strengths through a written exam, marketing research with a real business or organization and an interactive presentation. Industry professional serve as judges. The FHS students earned the preferred award for the Chapter’s program of work and annual report.
Several students placed first overall in their event, including Elizabeth G and Madison M (Advertising Campaign), Katherine D (Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan), Jackson S (Entrepreneurship Business Growth Plan) and Amanda M (Restaurant and Food Service Marketing).
Other students who placed among the top eight in their event include: Nedah H and Jessica D (Community Service Project), Emilie B and Lillian M (Hospitality Services Team Decision Making), Hannah D and Ashlyn D (Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making), and Max P and Noah A (Buying and Merchandise Team Decision Making), Sharanya E, Naaz J, and Samantha K (Creative Marketing), Lara D, Bailey M, and Shaiann S (Fashion Merchandise Promotion Plan), Elizabeth P, Kathryn D and Aiden W (Buying and Merchandising Operations Research Event), Julia S and Chetana S (Financial Services Team Decision Making), Wendell E (Entrepreneurship Start-Up Business Plan), and Jody M and Mary Walton P (Travel and Tourism Team Decision Making). All of these students earned the opportunity to advance to the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
According to DECA, the goal of the organization is to “prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.” The FHS DECA chapter is led by Career and Technical instructor Kay Walters.
