FHS Wrestler to Compete for State Title

Junior Earl Brewer will travel to Virginia Beach to compete for state title

Fairfax high school wrestling standout Earl Brewer (Jr., 195lbs) will compete for a state title this weekend in Virginia Beach. Brewer qualified for the state tournament after defeating the returning state finalist last Saturday at the Occoquan Regional tournament.

Brewer marks the first state qualifier for third year head coach Tanner Sewell. “We’ve had a few kids come close, but Brewer is our first to punch his ticket to the big dance,” Sewell said. “He’s got a legitimate shot at bringing home a state title this weekend – the 195lb weight class is an any-given-Sunday type of situation. It’s wide open. If Earl can string his best matches together – and I think that he will – he could be our first state champion in two decades.”

The last Fairfax wrestlers to bring home a state title were John Eastman and Justin Potter in 1998 under hall of fame coach Mitch Sutterfield.

The action will kick-off Friday morning at Kellam High School.
