Providence Elementary School Hosts Take Your Legislator to School Day

Principal Dan Phillips and Assistant Principals Janice Suitte and Sharon Hickey welcomed State Representative David Bulova and State Senator Chap Petersen to Providence Elementary School today. City of Fairfax Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Pajardo and Assistant Superintendent Diego Wilson along with School Board Chairman Carolyn Pitches and School Board member Dr. Mitch Sutterfield attended the luncheon and tour.

Principal Phillips toured the STEAM Lab, Outdoor Courtyard, playground, library and classrooms such as physical education and Chinese with the state representatives. At the end of the tour, the group met over lunch to discuss issues such as teacher retention, the importance of school counselors and psychologists, potential student population growth and special education.

The day was inspired by the Virginia School Board Association’s initative “Take Your Legislator to School” month. enouraging all school boards to invite their local representatives to tour schools and ask questions relevant to current work.
