Freshman Biology teacher Ronnetta Lyons was named Teacher of the Year for the Fairfax High School (FHS) pyramid. Ms. Lyons was nominated by the FHS staff as their school representative in January.
Ms. Lyons was named for her love for her students, her positivity in and out of the classroom and for her leadership among her peers. Principal Erin Lenart was immediately impressed when she met Ms. Lyons this summer.
“Ms. Lyons’ reputation and influence are second to none. When I met Ronnetta over the summer what I encountered was a consummate professional, passionate educator and born leader. After working with her I found she is organized, supportive, creative and leads by example expecting the same of her peers. She is so deserving of this award, as she represents all that we hope to cultivate and nurture,” said Lenart.
City of Fairfax School Board Chairman Carolyn Pitches knows Ms. Lyons not only as an outstanding member of the FHS teaching staff but as a parent of one of her own children.
“She is compassionate and respectful with her students. She has an amazing rapport with each of them. Ms. Lyons makes the content come alive, trying to engage all her students.” said Pitches.
Ms. Lyons will be considered for the Region 5 Teacher of the Year later this month.
