So-Young Lee, Lanier Middle School

Name:  So-Young Lee

School:  Lanier Middle School

Grade/Subject: 7th-8th/ Math, History, and Basic Skills

How long have you been a teacher?

7 years

What is your favorite lesson of the year?

I love to teach functional math. These functional math skills help our students with disabilities learn life skills and prepare them to be independent as adults.  We should encourage students to become technology literate, creative problem thinkers and solvers, and to master necessary skills to succeed in our society.

What do you like most about your school?

Lanier Middle School is a student-centered community that inspires growth and life long learning. Our administration strongly supports teachers and staff to follow this vision statement.

Why do you like this grade (best thing about this age of students)

As a mother of an 8th grader, I love to teach middle schoolers.  They are fun and are chemically crazy.

One tip for parents:

Everyone has a unique learning style.  Some people learn best by seeing or reading, others by listening and doing.  Parents can help a child with a learning disability by identifying his or her primary learning style.  Take steps to make sure that type of learning is reinforced in the classroom and at home.
