The City of Fairfax School Board and Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Pajardo would like to express appreciation to the City of Fairfax Council and Mayor for supporting our FY 2019 budget request.
The City of Fairfax Schools is the largest expenditure in the city budget. The four city schools; Fairfax High School, Lanier Middle School, Providence Elementary School and Daniels Run Elementary School educate over 5,000 city and county students. The strong partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) serves both the city and county as it allows city schools to offer comprehensive athletic, academic and cultural programs. The partnership also keeps the City of Fairfax costs and taxes considerably lower than similar-sized cities in our area.
The City school budget goals focus on instruction, intervention, technology and staff support. In addition to paying our tuition bill to FCPS for our city students, The FY 2019 Schools Budget will provide:
- Grants to schools to support summer enrichment programs, field trips and staff development
- Funds to reimburse teachers who achieve National Board Certification
- Support for increasing 1:1 technology at Lanier Middle School for all students
- Funding for the Innovation Lab at Daniels Run ES and STEAM Lab at Providence ES to provide science and engineering to all students in elementary school
