Fairfax High School has been honored as a recipient of the Purple Star Award for the 2024-2025 school year. The Virginia Council on the Educational Opportunity for Military Children voted to grant this prestigious designation on October 21, 2024, recognizing the school’s exceptional commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families.
The Purple Star Award is a testament to Fairfax High School’s efforts in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for students with military ties. This designation is valid for three school years.
“We are incredibly proud of Fairfax HS and their work to receive the Purple Star Award,” said City of Fairfax Superintendent Jeff Platenberg. “This recognition reflects the administration and staff’s commitment to ensuring all military-connected students feel valued and supported as part of their school community.”
Additionally, the school will receive the SY 2024-2025 Recognition Resolution, with the highly coveted Purple Star Award challenge coin to follow. The challenge coin is a nod to the military tradition of presenting unit coins as a symbol of excellence and dedication to the mission.
